Apachi (Gandmala) Chikitsa

The knots that develop around the neck like a necklace are called Apachi or Gandmala. The treatment of this disease has been described at many places in Atharva Veda. The severity of this disease and its nature have been described in Atharva Veda 7/74/78, the summary of which is that I pierce the red coloured (Lohitinaam), badly accumulated, non-healing knots (Apachitam), the black coloured contaminated blood vein (Krishna Mata) Apachi with the root of Munidev (Agastya tree) or the root of Palaash tree, (Vidhyaami) - I press it.

In this Sukta, the treatment of Apachi Gandmala has been described with the root of Agastya tree and Hastikarna Palaash. Along with this, drinking the juice of the root of Agastya and Palaash and washing the knots of Gandmala with that juice has been mentioned.
